The primary payload uses Wolter type 1 mirror modules, with a focal length of about 85 centimeters. Aligning the mirrors modules to the detector is vital for proper observations. An alignment system has been developed based on a three kinematic mounts, which combined make-up a Maxwell mount. Current plan is to manufacture these alignment modules conventionally, with CNC milling and wire EDM.

This assignment is to investigate how to 3D print these alignment modules. This will require: - Research into the launch loads of the Falcon 9 and how these propagate to the payload of our mission. - Research into the current alignment modules - Research possible design changes to the alignment modules to allow for 3D printing - Research into how to 3D-print such an alignment modules, for aluminum and possible other metals - Manufacture the alignment modules by use of 3D-printing - Set-up a test plan and test procedure for the new alignment modules - Perform the test and document the results in a test report - Perform a comparison between the conventional and 3D-printed modules
